Thoughts on summer school structure
Okay so for summer school the structure needs to be modified to look something like this:
for week one on Monday the topic and theorists are introduced and students take in readings on those theorists. The deliverable due at the end of the day is Cornell notes on the readings.
For week one on Tuesday students take part in online discussion about the topic and theorists.
For week one on Wednesday there is a new topic and a new set of theorists for students to read about s and take notes on.
For week one on Thursday students take part in online discussion about the topic and theorists.
For week one on Friday students synthesize the material taken in during the week.
In terms of support materials, I will provide scoring rubric's for the note taking and for the online discussion. I will also provide guiding questions to help people find ways into the material. I am unsure at this point whether I will do short video presentations to introduce topics and theorists or if I will simply do that by text. In part this will depend on the options available within Canvas.
My guess at this point is that we will need to spend week two in the same fashion.
Then in week three we begin a two-week adventure in producing individually framed and driven projects. I have the workflow for these projects already laid out. So I can basically just chop it into segments in order to fit it into the daily schedule that summer school demands.
The projects will also mean switching platforms from canvas to blogger. So for example in week three creating a blog in a particular way will be one of the assignments along with identifying an issue or opportunity and writing a project prospectus --and, I imagine, creating the annotated bibliography part of the project.
Then in week four students would be writing the reports and creating a presentation slides along with a video tape recording of their presentation.
Week five with then be reserved for presentations and online discussion and wrap up.

This is just the first draft. I will have to think about the timing and also matters like making sure people will be able to record a presentation on video. I mean basically it's a narrated slideshow so it's not really that technically advanced. You can do this and pretty much any video editor and perhaps they could even be done using YouTube's "Creator studio".
